Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to share some wonderful news with you. Leigh Stationers’ Primary Academy has officially been granted the UNICEF UK Bronze: Rights Committed Award!
What is the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA)?
The RRSA is an initiative run by UNICEF UK that encourages schools to place the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of their ethos and curriculum.
Achieving the Bronze award means that we have successfully:
- Introduced the concept of Children’s Rights to our staff and pupils.
- Established a steering group/School Council of students to lead this journey.
- Committed to creating a safe and inspiring environment where children’s voices are heard and valued.
Our Next Steps: Going for Silver
While we are incredibly proud of this first milestone, we are not stopping here! We are now officially working towards our Silver: Rights Aware award.
To achieve Silver, we will be focusing on:
- Teaching and Learning: Ensuring all children can name their rights and understand how they apply to their lives.
- Culture and Ethos: Developing a school environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
- Empowerment: Supporting our pupils to become “global citizens” who speak out for the rights of children everywhere.
How Can You Help?
You can support our journey by talking to your child about their rights at home. You might ask them: “Which rights have you been learning about in assembly this week?” or “How can we respect the rights of others in our community?”
We look forward to sharing more updates as we progress toward Silver. Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Miss Lacy
Assistant Principal
