Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: End of Term Letter – Easter Break
As we approach the end of term and the upcoming Easter break, I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the lovely events that have happened this term.
We celebrated World Book Day in great style this year, where our pupils relished the opportunity to dress up as their favourite characters. The enthusiasm was palpable as Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull brought a theatrical flair to our day. We also hosted biscuit and blanket reading for pleasure sessions, encouraging a love for literature among our students. I am delighted to report that our Scholastic Book Fair raised £285 for the school, which will be invested in new books for our classrooms.
I would like to commend our House Captains for their exemplary efforts in organising a fundraiser for Comic Relief, which raised an impressive £337.25. This great achievement reflects our school’s commitment to social responsibility and charitable contributions.
The Trust Visual Arts Competition saw entries from all classes, showcasing the creativity and talent of our students. It has been a pleasure to witness their artistic development throughout the year.
We have also enjoyed some exciting class trips this term. Year 2 had an adventurous outing to Oxygen at the O2 for trampolining, which provided a fun and active experience. Year 4 explored the natural world on their trip to Deptford Creek, where they engaged in cross-curricular activities including river dipping and a ‘duck race’ to test the speed of the river. Additionally, Year 2 visited Danson Park to study geographical features, while Year 3 conducted surveys on Welling High Street, reinforcing their learning through real-world experiences.
Mrs Hall also organised an exciting Science Week for the whole school. The theme was “Change and Adapt,” this was a resounding success. Pupils explored the fascinating world of migratory birds, designing their own gliders and testing their flight distances, which encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving.
As we move into the summer term, please note the dress code for summer uniform. Pupils may wear grey shorts or the summer blue check dress (If you still have yellow checked dresses these can also be worn). For safety reasons, sandals or open-toed shoes are not permitted. Additionally, I would like to remind you that no jewellery is allowed, except for one pair of small stud earrings. Please ensure that your child can manage their earrings independently during activities such as PE, as they will need to remove them when required.
Online Safety
I spoke to the children about the importance of staying safe in the holidays, particularly in regard to staying safe online. Please take the time to discuss internet safety with your child, ensuring they understand the potential risks and how to navigate them securely. PALS
Thank you to PALS for organising a wonderful sale, for our Someone Special day and for the fun-filled Easter Hunt. All of the classes had lots of fun during the Egg Hunt, working in House teams to find as many eggs as they could. Eggs were hidden all over the field and everyone raced around, searching high and low. The children showed great sportsmanship and all of the helpers were very impressed. All of the house scores were added together and the winners were Eagles. You can see photographs of the Egg Hunt on your child’s Google Classroom.
90th Year Celebration
On Friday 2nd of May we celebrate the 90th Year of the school being officially open. We will be holding an afternoon tea party and have different events taking place throughout the day. As the school had no uniform when it first opened we are inviting the children to wear clothes in the style of the 1930’s to school on this day as we all step back in time. Children wore shorts, ties, dresses or skirts. This is a photograph from the 1960’s of Eastcote children to give you an idea! There will more information to follow when we return.
